How We Research
Every guide on Cooksmithy starts with one question: will this product fit your kitchen and the way you use it? For a refrigerator, that means measuring the space, checking capacity and deciding which features matter in your household.
Here is how we answer it.
1. We start with the kitchen and the job
A large French-door fridge may not fit a narrow kitchen or doorway. A countertop water filter may not suit a household that needs more filtered water each day.
We check dimensions, usable capacity, clearance, installation needs and the product's intended use. For organizers, containers, ice makers and monitors, we look at fit, storage needs and how each item works with the appliances and routines readers already have.
2. We compare specs and features
We look at the details makers publish: refrigerator layout, storage and temperature controls, energy use, Wi-Fi and app support, filter compatibility, ice type, container materials and monitor alerts.
Makers describe their products in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note listed warranty terms, replacement parts and upkeep needs where they affect ownership.
3. We look at buyer feedback
We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like a refrigerator that is noisy, an app that drops its connection, a filter that leaks, or containers that crack or stain.
One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.
4. We score each product
Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A spacious refrigerator may suit a family, while a compact model may be a better choice for a smaller kitchen.
Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.
5. We keep pages up to date
Products change, and some disappear from stores. Makers may sell close models under similar names, so we check the model name, listed features and what's included, and we only link new units.
We skip products with unclear specifications, no reliable seller information or a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.
What our picks are not
Our picks are based on research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.
For setup, food safety, electrical work or repairs, follow the maker's instructions and consult a qualified professional when needed.
